Night Shift (1982)

A nebbish of a morgue attendant gets shunted back to the night shift where he is shackled with an obnoxious neophyte partner who dreams of the “one great idea” for success. His life takes a bizarre turn when a prostitute neighbour complains about the loss of her pimp. His partner, upon hearing the situation, suggests that they fill that opening themselves using the morgue at night as their brothel. Against his better judgement, he gets talked into the idea, only to find that it’s more than his boss that has objections to this bit of entrepreneurship.

The Man Who Haunted Himself (1970)

Conservative executive Harold Pelham (a harrowing and atypical performance by Roger Moore) is involved in a car accident and declared momentarily dead. Cabin in the Sky (1943)

In this musical, Little Joe, an inveterate gambler, promises his wife Petunia he’ll reform and confess his sins at church, but he slips out the side door to play craps at the Paradise club; he’s shot and brought home with a mortal wound. The Man from Hong Kong (1975)

And the poster was right. This was a Hong Kong/ Australian co-production designed to give Bruce Lee style stardom to Chinese leading man Jimmy Wang Yu, a kind of all punching,all kicking Chow Yun Fat of the 70’s. And very good he is too,although he is no Lee as a Hong Kong cop who travels to Sydney to bring to book a vicious Australian gang boss played by of all people,ex Bond George Lazenby. He too is effective and he gets involved in quite a bit of kung foolery himself until he meets a very grisly end with a grenade taped to his mouth whilst locked in a safe full of explosives. Ouch! If you ever fancied seeing a film where a young Sammo Hung fights like crazy on top of Ayers Rock against a sweating and overweight Australian cop then this is your dream movie.Later on he tells the same cop to “P**S OFF” in Chinese and gets his head pushed down a toilet. This never happens in “MARTIAL LAW”. Hung choreographed all the fight action and does a good job although the fights are so long you could leave the room,have a 3 course meal,return and the same fight would be going on. This is hardly a criticism though.This is a terrific action movie with a humdinger of a car chase,good music,hang-gliders and beautiful women.Best of all,unlike most of its ilk from that period,it was shot in the English language so no dubbing.
